The West Chester Area School District has the following position available in the Facilities & Operations Dept:

 

 

(Anticipated) HVAC/ Plumbing Master Mechanic

 

 

SUMMARY:

The Master HVAC/Plumber Mechanic shall be responsible for overseeing, provide technical training and, review HVAC and plumbing work as assigned, including contractor coordination, tracking work orders and performing HVAC and plumbing installation and repairs.  Assist with develop and will oversee the preventative maintenance program for heating, ventilating and plumbing systems.

 

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Reports directly to the Supervisor of HVAC and Plumbing.
  • Works cooperatively with administrators, supervisors, staff and others to perform job responsibilities as outlined

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  1. 12 month (260-262 days)
  2. Salary & Benefits are as described in the current Collective Bargaining Agreement. Pay starting at $43.54 per hour

 

QUALIFICATIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

To successfully perform this position, a person must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualification requirements listed below represent the minimum levels of educational achievement, training, skill and/or ability necessary.

 

  • High school diploma or equivalent necessary
  • Minimum five years’ experience in commercial HVAC, Plumbing, and refrigeration trades
  • Certification in Universal Refrigerant Recovery required
  • Valid PA driver’s license
  • ACT 34 and 151 clearance and FBI clearance
  • Ability to read and understand plans and specifications
  • Possess effective interpersonal skills with the ability to interface diplomatically with other teachers, administrators, parents, students, support staff and outside professional contacts

 

Ability to work at height’s utilizing ladders, cranes, buckets, etc.; must be able to reach above and below the waist, walk and use fingers to pick, feel and grasp objects. Requires use of both hands for repetitive motion. Able to bend, twist, kneel, stoop, climb and crawl. Lifts/carries supplies weighing 70 lbs. or more. Ability to work in an external environment subject to temperatures below 32 degrees or above 100 degrees. Able to stand or walk eighty percent (80%) of workday. Ability to work alone and with little supervision.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Initiate and review HVAC and plumbing work requests, prioritize projects, develop and maintain work schedule for HVAC and Plumbing Mechanics.

 

  1. Plan, coordinate, delegate and monitor projects for all HVAC and Plumbing Systems and devices.

 

  1. Responds to daily emergencies as they arise and works on resolving them.

 

  1. Assists the Supervisor of HVAC and Plumbing Systems in developing and maintaining a preventative maintenance schedule for all the HVAC and plumbing equipment within the District, including scheduling of inspections both internally and externally and periodic replacement of this equipment.

 

  1. Knowledge and ability to schedule operation, trouble shoot and repair air conditioning, refrigeration, heating, ventilation fans, pumps, piping, sheet metals, duct work, associated with HVAC equipment.

 

  1. Ability to install, maintain, repair, troubleshoot all equipment associated with plumbing to include but not limited to: overhead and underground piping, bathroom fixtures and facilities, manual, electronic and automatic valves, copper, black, galvanized and plastic piping, drinking fountains, potable and heating water equipment, hot water heaters, ice machines, pumps, etc.

 

  1. Assists in overseeing the status of any project assigned by the Supervisor of HVAC/Plumbing.

 

  1. Completes follow-up inspections of various work orders and maintenance jobs, and reports any and all deficiencies to the Supervisor of HVAC and Plumbing.

 

  1. Responsible for ensuring recovery of refrigeration as per the Universal Refrigerant recovery laws.

 

  1. Works with Supervisor of HVAC and Plumbing to develop and budget a General Fund Project List for each year.

 

  1. Works on daily maintenance work orders or jobs as assigned.

 

  1. Manages a stock of supplies for these various system components. Procures additional stock and supplies, when necessary, through the District’s purchasing process.

 

  1. Serve as subject matter expert and interface with project coordinators on capital reserve, general fund and bond project design and review. Perform project site visits and inspections as needed.

 

  1. Serve as acting supervisor during supervisor’s absence.

 

  1. Performs other duties as assigned.
