SUMMARY:

The Elementary Assistant Principal supports the Principal in leading the school community by providing instructional leadership, fostering a positive and inclusive school culture, and ensuring a safe and productive learning environment. This role involves working closely with teachers, students, parents, and staff to enhance student achievement, implement school policies, and oversee daily operations.

 

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

The Assistant Principal is under the supervision of, and accountable to, the Principal, the Director of Elementary Education, and the Superintendent.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  1. 12 month position (minimum 1820 hours)
  2. Salary and benefits are as described in the Administrative Compensation Plan of the West Chester Area School District. 

QUALIFICATIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • To successfully perform this position, a person must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualification requirements listed below represent minimum levels of educational achievement, training, skill and/or ability necessary.
  • Certification in School Administration.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.  Possess effective interpersonal skills with the ability to interface diplomatically with other administrators, teachers, parents, students, School Board members, support staff, colleagues, and outside professional contacts.
  • Ability to work with and apply mathematical concepts; ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; proficiency in the use of technology for individual and system management, communication, and research; proficiency in presentation technology to enhance small and large group information and demonstration sessions.
  • Skills in coordinating and evaluating staff while using technology.
  • Qualified candidate will be required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, and to talk and hear; Sit and occasionally be required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel and crouch; Have specific vision abilities, to include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus;  Have the ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds; and possess effective communication, judgmental, planning and human relations skills, and will be required to work under periods of stress due to the level of the position responsibility.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:   

 

  1. Instructional Leadership:
  • Support the implementation of curriculum and instructional programs aligned with district and state standards.
  • Assist teachers in data analysis to improve student learning outcomes and provide targeted interventions.
  • Facilitate professional development for staff, ensuring best practices in teaching and learning.
  • Conduct classroom observations and provide constructive feedback to teachers.
  1. Student Support & Behavior Management:
  • Foster a positive school culture that supports student well-being, social-emotional learning, and academic success.
  • Oversee the implementation of student behavior policies, including discipline and restorative practices.
  • Work with teachers, counselors, and families to develop individualized support plans for students who need additional guidance.
  • Lead efforts to promote equity and inclusion within the school.
  1. School Operations & Safety:
  • Assist in daily school operations, including scheduling, attendance, and supervision of arrival/dismissal procedures.
  • Oversee school safety plans and emergency procedures, ensuring compliance with district and state regulations.
  • Support the coordination of state and district assessments to ensure smooth administration.
  1. Family & Community Engagement:
  • Serve as a liaison between the school and families, ensuring open communication and collaboration.
  • Support parent engagement initiatives, such as workshops, school events, and volunteer opportunities.
  • Partner with community organizations to enhance student learning and well-being.
  1. Administrative & Other Duties:
  • Assist in hiring, mentoring, and evaluating instructional and support staff.
  • Support budget planning and resource allocation in alignment with school goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal to support the school’s mission and goals.
